Females are more likely than males to be the victims of sexual assault

2013 data from ABS Recorded Crime – Victims, Australia (cat. no. 4510.0) shows that females were more likely to be the victims of sexual assault than males. The victimisation rate for sexual assault was 143.4 per 100,000 females, compared to 27.5 per 100,000 males.

However, males were more likely to be a victim of robbery than females. The male victimisation rate for robbery was 59.0 victims per 100,000 males and the female victimisation rate for robbery was 22.7 victims per 100,000 females.

Latest data from ABS Recorded Crime - Offenders, Australia (cat. no. 4519.0) shows that the offender rate per 100,000 persons aged 10 years and over for both males and females has increased over the last year. The offender rate for males increased from 3,003 male offenders per 100,000 males aged 10 years and over in 2011-12 to 3,080 male offenders per 100,000 males aged 10 years and over in 2012-13. In 2011-12 the offender rate for females was 842 female offenders per 100,000 females aged 10 years and over, which increased to 847 female offenders per 100,000 females aged 10 years and over in 2012-13.
